A women's self defense class will teach you how to avoid being attacked or how to defend yourself when you are attacked. Their suggestions might include how to use mace or pepper spray or how to use pressure points to ward off potential attackers. The traditional methods of women's self defense are preferred, but when availability allows the use of unconventional weapons can come in handy. Unconventional weapons include every day items that you might have on your person that can ward of an attacker to protect yourself or your children.

Remember do not swing the umbrella like sword. It will not stop or injure the attacker. You must use the point. Aim at the face area, especially toward the eyes or mouth. If the face is not available, try the solar plexus right below the sternum. That is about two inches below the chest bone. A good jab in the ribs will also deter the assailant.
Women's self defense classes may teach you to pull the hair of your attacker. This is a good tactic if he is already upon you, but if you have the time there is probably stuff in your purse relating to hair that you can use as a weapon. If you are a smoker or have a lighter on hand, a can of hair spray makes a great flamethrower. Just light the lighter and spray the hairspray a few inches above the flame. The propellant in the hair spray will cause the spray to ignite singeing the attackers face or body.
