How Motivation Games Can Improve Your Work Environment

When people think of games, they do not usually associate them with the workplace. Most people consider games as recreational activities, not motivation and morale building techniques. However, studies have shown that businesses who have incorporated motivation games into their ongoing employee training and professional development programs have seen great increases in employee morale and motivation.

Workplace motivation games can take many different forms. They can be used within training programs, team building exercises, and as motivational sales techniques. The type of business you are involved in will determine which games will work within your organization. Try incorporating a few of the following ideas into your business or come up with some fun and creative options for your business.

Training Games

Training can be a tedious task for both the workers and the trainers. Using motivation games with training information can be a great way to introduce new tasks and concepts. Games will keep your employees attention on the important information being introduced, while allowing them to have fun. Depending on the information being introduced, you can use a variety of games.

Role playing has always been a popular technique for training. These games allow employees a chance to put new information into practice in a training setting before being faced with an actual business situation. When training involves a lot of memorization, a quiz show type game can help employees remember key pieces of information while allowing them to have a little fun and healthy competition. Both of these techniques also allow the trainer to give feedback on performances and answers, reinforcing the important points of the training session.

Team Building Games

Teamwork can be a wonderful motivator in the workplace. Using team building motivation games to help build a positive atmosphere within the workplace can create a more enjoyable place to work. These exercises and games should allow all participants a chance to express their opinion and feel valued as a team member. Knowing that their thoughts and opinions matter will give team members the incentive to try harder for the whole team's benefit.

When using team building games, set goals and offer prizes or incentives to the entire team based on performance. Making a team game out of a company goal, such as higher sales percentages is a great tactic. If you split the employees up into teams, they can encourage and motivate each other, as well as increase their own personal performance. Most employees will work harder when they know others are aware of their accomplishments and failures.

Games as Sales Techniques

For retail or other sales driven organization, motivation games can not only increase employee morale and performance, but also drive business and increase profits. Using games to increase individual sales with enjoyable prizes and recognition has proven very effective in a lot of major corporations. It is a very good idea to set a store or company goal, in conjunction with these individual motivation games to allow everyone a chance to win, even if their personal results are lacking a bit.

Sales games can be as simple as creating a chart listing all the employees and their weekly sales goal. The first person to reach their goal wins a prize or incentive. You can also put a twist on these techniques, incorporating classic games like bingo into the mix. Place products within the squares of the board and as each item is sold, mark the square off. The first to fill their card is the winner. Many other games can be modified for use as a motivational tool in the workplace. Be creative and ask your workers for their input. Soon you'll see a new spirit of teamwork and motivation throughout your business.
