The Three Most Common Causes of
Depression
There is no particular cause of depression. However, it has
been confirmed by medical experts that the true cause of
depression is biological and medical in nature.
It is believed that there are three factors that contribute to
clinical depression. These three aspects are: psychological,
biological and environmental. How and why these factors
triggers depression will be the subject of this article.
Psychological Factors
The most common psychological factors are the ones brought
about by our own minds. For instance, men are believed to be
stronger than women, but in reality, men get hurt too -- they
ache on the inside. It is just that they do not talk about
their problems as freely as women do.
Whenever a person is not able to talk freely, all thoughts are
kept bottled up inside and this is a great burden to the
person. Personal dilemmas, stressful situations, and unbearable
circumstances that get out of hand are very stimulating to a
person's mind and can impact a person psychologically and
emotionally -- however, whether or not this is a contributing
factor to depression is not a proven fact as yet.
Environmental Factors
The most difficult of all situations is when you have the
burdens to solve and yet nobody is helping you. Lack of support
from family and friends can also be a cause of depression. In
the United States, most people are very independent; they often
solve problems on their own and do not ask anyone for help. In
doing this, people become very stressed and troubled.
Another environmental factor would include the weather. Studies
show that in places where there is less sunlight, people
usually suffer from depression. This is because serotonin, a
neurotransmitter, changes levels. Again, the environmental
factors have not been proven as depression causing facts as yet
by medical experts.
Biological Factors
The biological factor comes last and is the only accepted cause
of depression by scientists and experts. They say that the
body's emotions are governed by three leading
neurotransmitters, and these are: serotonin, norepinephrine and
dopamine. If any of the levels of these neurotransmitters
changes, then it becomes now a cause of depression.
So if you think that you are depressed, you must tell your
doctor right away. There are numerous depression treatments out
there; you just have to choose the one that best fits you.
These treatments will hopefully make you enjoy life once more;
and the sooner you get the therapy, the sooner you will feel
better.
