The Essentials on Depression
Help
Depression can get the better of you if you are not careful.
Depression has a whole host of emotions. They range from
feelings of extreme sadness, exhaustion, worthlessness,
hopelessness and helplessness. These negative thoughts can
spiral out of control if you do not seek depression help.
Without depression help you may never be able to accurately
view life again. Depression makes life seem negative. Even the
most joyous event can be hampered if you are suffering from
depression. Don’t let depression rob you of your life, do
everything you can to get depression help.
Once you start treating your depression it is important to keep
certain things in mind. Here is a helpful list of them:
1. Set goals for yourself that are realistic. While it is
important to take responsibility for your health, do not set
goals for yourself that are so far fetched that you are setting
yourself up for failure.
2. Set priorities in your life. If you have a large task
looming before you, break it up into small manageable chunks
that you can tackle a little bit at a time. Many times this can
help you get something done. It certainly is a lot easier to
break up a large task into smaller chunks than simply worrying
about the magnitude of the task itself and doing nothing.
3. Find someone you can confide in. Being able to talk
openly and honestly about your feelings can go far in helping
to clear your head and take some of the load off of your
shoulders.
4. Try to make yourself do some form of exercise. You do
not have to join a gym or sign up to run in a marathon. Doing
something simple like walking up and down your driveway,
bowling, playing tennis or going for a swim can help you feel
better.
5. Try to participate in something that once brought you
pleasure. This could be going to the movies, watching a
ballgame, going to church or a social function.
6. Once you have started on anti depression medication,
understand that it takes four to six weeks to see an
improvement in your mood. Give the medication time to work and
do not chunk it into the garbage can. If you are experiencing
side effects that are particularly bothersome, talk to your
doctor.
7. Don’t make any major life decision until you feel that
you have a handle on your depression. Many people change jobs,
move or get divorced or married, mortgage their homes and other
major things in the middle of their depression and end up
regretting their decision.
